Entry-to-practice examinations

The entry-to-practice examination for dietetics is the Canadian Dietetic Registration Examination (CDRE).

An applicant must successfully complete this exam to be eligible for Full licensure.

The entry-to-practice examinations for hearing instrument dispensing are:

• International Licensing Examination for Hearing Healthcare Professionals (ILE)
• HID Practical Examination

An applicant must successfully complete both of these exams to be eligible for Full licensure. The HID Practical Examination cannot be challenged until the ILE is complete.

The entry-to-practice examination for occupational therapy is the National Occupational Therapy Certification Examination (NOTCE).

An applicant must successfully complete this exam to be eligible for Full licensure.

The entry-to-practice examinations for opticianry are the National Examinations for Canadian Opticians (Optical Sciences 1 and 2).

An applicant must successfully complete both exams to be eligible for Full licensure.

Two entry-to-practice examinations are offered for optometry:

• Optometry Examining Board of Canada (OEBC) Examination
• National Board of Examiners in Optometry (NBEO) Examination*

An applicant must successfully complete one of these exams to be eligible for Full licensure.

* Completion of the NBEO Examination is acceptable for CHCPBC licensure only if you initiated the examination process before March 12, 2025. For more information, see NBEO Exam no longer accepted for optometry licensure in BC.

The entry-to-practice examination for physical therapy is the Canadian Physiotherapy Examination (CPTE).*

An applicant must successfully complete this exam to be eligible for Full licensure.

* Applicants who completed the Alternate Clinical Evaluation BC (ACEBC) prior to its discontinuation in early 2026 can still select “ACEBC” within the online application.

The entry-to-practice examinations for psychology are:

• Examination for Professional Practice in Psychology (EPPP)
• Oral Examination

An applicant must successfully complete both of these exams to be eligible for Full licensure. The Oral Examination cannot be challenged until the EPPP is complete.

The entry-to-practice examinations for school psychology are:

• Praxis School Psychologist Examination
• Readiness for Practice Examination (RPE)

An applicant must successfully complete both of these exams to be eligible for Full licensure. The RPE cannot be challenged until the Praxis Exam is complete.

Two entry-to-practice examinations are offered for speech-language pathology:

• Canadian Entry-to-Practice (CETP) Exam
• Praxis Speech-Language Pathology Examination (5331)

An applicant must successfully complete one of these exams to be eligible for Full licensure.
