New health profession legislation comes into force on April 1, 2026

The Ministry of Health has announced that the Health Professions Act will be repealed on April 1, 2026 and replaced by the Health Professions and Occupations Act (HPOA). The BC Government has also posted updated regulations to align with the HPOA. The regulations will add new health professions to BC’s health regulatory framework. On November 29, 2027, psychotherapists will be regulated by CHCPBC.

This week marks the one-year anniversary of the College of Health and Care Professionals of BC. This has been a whirlwind year for all of us at CHCPBC, but we did it. CHCPBC is moving forward with the development of a modernized and unified approach to a Quality Assurance Program (QAP). The program will support quality practice of more than 16,000 health and care professionals in nine professions and be consistent with the Health Professions and Occupations Act (HPOA) when it is brought into force.

June is National Indigenous History Month. This month presents an opportunity to celebrate Indigenous brilliance. This month we also encourage you to learn. At CHCPBC, we are doing our part to dismantle Indigenous-specific racism in the healthcare system. We are identifying where Indigenous-specific racism shows up in our regulatory processes and we choose to be an actively anti-racist organization.

When CHCPBC was formed in the summer of 2024, our logo featured bright green stars, accompanied by light and dark blue text. Six months later, we began the process of replacing this logo on our website and documents with an enhanced version. Why the re-brand for such a new organization? The answer relates to digital accessibility.
