The College of Health and Care Professionals of BC (CHCPBC) invites submissions from Indigenous artists to create a commemorative piece of visual art to be featured as the cover and integrated throughout our upcoming report marking the 10-year anniversary of the Truth and Reconciliation Commission of Canada’s Calls to Action (PDF). This report will reflect on the work done by CHCPBC and the legacy colleges since 2015 in advancing cultural safety, humility, and reconciliation in health regulation.

We are seeking a meaningful and relational artistic contribution that reflects Indigenous identity, wisdom, and strength, while honouring the journey of change within health regulation in BC. This is an opportunity to visually represent how far we’ve come and how much further we must go.

Eligibility

This call is open to all First Nations, Métis, and Inuit artists residing in British Columbia. We especially welcome submissions from those with a relational connection to health regulation including current or former registrants, family members, caregivers, or individuals who hold health and regulatory work close to their hearts.

Artists must be willing to verify their Indigenous identity.

Artwork requirements

The final artwork will:

  • Be featured as the cover of the anniversary report
  • Have select elements woven throughout the report’s layout and design
  • Be completed and submitted by August 31, 2025
  • Be suitable for high-quality reproduction in both print and digital formats

Submissions can be in any two-dimensional visual medium, including but not limited to:

  • Painting (acrylic, watercolor, oil)
  • Drawing (ink, pencil, pastel)
  • Digital illustration (excluding AI-generated art)
  • Mixed media

Compensation

An honorarium of $3,000 CAD will be provided to the selected artist. This includes rights to reproduce the work for publication, recognition in the final report, and the inclusion of a brief artist biography.

Submission deadline

Submissions must be received by Friday, June 27, 2025.

Submission guidelines

Please include the following in your application:

  1. Artist Statement: A short description of your artistic background, your connection to Indigenous communities, and your approach to this project.
  2. Portfolio: Up to 5 samples of your previous work (images or links).
  3. Concept Description: A brief outline or initial sketch of your proposed idea for the report cover (optional but encouraged).
  4. Contact Information: Full name, email address, phone number, and Indigenous community affiliation.

As of April 1, 2026, psychology supervision plans will no longer be an acceptable practice authority in BC. This change will impact individuals who were applicants and not currently registered and are or have been providing psychological services under a psychology “supervision plan,” and psychologists supervising such individuals.

VFSS certifications repealed from bylaws

Changes are coming to Schedule 10, Certified Practice in the CHCPBC Bylaws to remove the need for certification for some videofluoroscopic swallow study (VFSS) certifications. When the bylaw amendments come into effect, speech-language pathologists can be involved in the provision of VFSS without regulatory limits or conditions as part of their scope of practice.

HPOA Licensee Webinar Series

CHCPBC will host the HPOA Licensee Webinar Series. Each session in the series will focus on a different aspect of the Health Professions and Occupations Act and what it means for licensees. Recordings of the sessions will be made available.
