As of April 1, 2026, psychology supervision plans will no longer be an acceptable practice authority in BC. This change will impact individuals who were applicants and not currently registered with the College and are or have been providing psychological services under a psychology “supervision plan,” and psychologists supervising such individuals.
An individual who had applied for registration as a psychologist prior to April 1, 2026, and was practising under a supervision plan while waiting to complete entry-to-practice examinations (EPPP, Oral Examinations, Praxis, RPE) may be eligible to obtain a Provisional Licence in order to lawfully practice. If granted, this licence would authorize the licensee to provide psychological services under the supervision of a College-approved Full Licensee, in good standing. A new supervision agreement needs to be agreed to and signed by the Provisional Licensee and the supervising Full Licensee as a condition of licensure.
Provisional licensure is issued for a term of up to one year (12 months), with a potential one-time extension of six months at the discretion of the Registrar. Details with respect to the eligibility standards and terms and conditions of a Provisional Licence can be found in Parts 6 and 9 of the College’s bylaws under the HPOA.
The practice authority for all applicants providing psychological services pursuant to a supervision plan will end at 11:59 p.m. on March 31, 2026.
Those wishing to continue offering psychological services under supervision will need to be eligible for, and licensed in, the Provisional class prior to continuing to practise psychology under supervision. The College will contact applicants currently under supervision to outline the next steps.
