The College of Health and Care Professionals of BC would like to respectfully acknowledge the life and legacy of the Honourable Justice Murray Sinclair, Mazina Giizhik (One Who Speaks of Pictures in the Sky). As the Chair of the TRC, his dedication and advocacy for truth and justice for First Nations, Inuit and Métis people led to the creation of the 94 Calls to Action. His leadership with the TRC is a reminder to everyone that reconciliation is ongoing and calls for collective commitment and action.
The College has taken time to reflect on our progress in addressing the Calls to Action over the past ten years. In doing so, we also reflect on the work we’ve undertaken to eradicate Indigenous-specific racism in the healthcare system and to embed Indigenous cultural safety and humility within regulatory governance, standards and processes.
With humility, we share “Ten Years of Repair and Growth: Our Journey towards Truth and Reconciliation” (PDF), which looks below the ground for the foundations at the roots. It identifies signs of early growth from the seeds that have been planted. And it considers the future forest we envision.
