Home 5 News 5 Introducing the Professional & Quality Practice Program (PQPP)

November 13, 2025

The College of Health and Care Professionals of BC (CHCPBC) has designed a comprehensive new approach to quality practice that includes continuing professional development, practice support, and quality assurance assessments. The Professional & Quality Practice Program (PQPP) will launch in fall 2026 and will apply to all nine professions regulated by the College.

The purpose of the PQPP is to improve patient outcomes, and support health professionals’ learning and performance.

“The PQPP is a unified, modernized approach to quality practice based on current evidence,” said CHCPBC Registrar Dianne Millette. “It’s time for a unified, modernized, and comprehensive program that recognizes most health professionals remain competent throughout their careers and regulation can support the necessary learning in ways that embraces the complexity of healthcare.”

Three parts within new Professional & Quality Practice Program

Here is an overview of the three parts that will be included in the new PQPP:

  1. Continuing Professional Development (CPD) Annual Touchpoints
  2. Practice Support and Resources
  3. Quality Assurance Assessments

Details about each of these three parts of the new PQPP is available on the Professional & Quality Practice Program page. This includes information on which parts are required or available for all registrants and which are only required for registrants who would benefit from a follow-up peer assessment to identify additional needed supports.

What’s next

  • We will soon be inviting volunteers to review the new standards and pre-test the PQPP Tools. These program transition activities will allow for profession-specific input to ensure that the content reflects the unique practice of each of the nine professions.
  • Pre- and pilot-testing of the program tools will take place in early 2026 and implementation is planned for fall 2026.

About the project

This announcement follows eight months of intensive evidence review, consultations, and design. The Professional and Quality Practice Program will be consistent with the Health Professions and Occupations Act (HPOA) that comes into force on April 1, 2026.

As we transition to the new PQPP, you will be able to find the most up-to-date information on the Professional & Quality Practice Program page.
