PROFESSIONAL & QUALITY PRACTICE PROGRAM
PQPP Components
The Professional & Quality Practice Program (PQPP) will be made up of three components:
1. CPD ANNUAL TOUCHPOINTS
- To be completed by all CHCPBC licensees.
- Will be online and open for completion between October 1 and November 30, each year (starting in 2026).
- The total estimated time to complete the CPD Annual Touchpoints is 2 to 3 hours. Licensees will not have to complete all of the steps in one sitting unless they choose to, as the online portal will support multiple visits, whenever convenient during the two months allotted for completion each year.
Standards Review
With new harmonized Ethics & Practice Standards in place, this first touchpoint will involve licensees reviewing up to 4 different standards each year, specified by the college. This review will include a series of reflective questions, and take approximately 15 minutes to complete, per standard.
The standards chosen for review in 2026 will be:
- Communication
- Consent
- Discontinuing Health Services & Ensuring Continuity of Care
This activity will be available starting in September of each year, should licensees wish to complete the review early.
Standards Quiz
Once the Standards Review has been finished, licensees will complete a short, profession-specific, case-based quiz on the same standards that were reviewed. The quiz will be online and open book, and will provide licensees with feedback upon completion, including answers and explanations for each. A score will also be given, but a pass mark will not be required for this quiz. The quiz will be made up of 6 to 8 case scenarios, each with 3 questions (for a total of 18 to 24 questions). It is estimated that it will take approximately 45 minutes to complete.
Guided Self-Report
Inventory of Risks and Protective Factors
Licensees will answer a selection of reflective questions to help them think about their own potential risks as a health professional and identify any relevant protective factors in place to help mitigate or manage the impact of those risks. This confidential inventory is for licensees’ own personal use, to help guide them in planning future professional development. A summary of the licensee’s responses will be provided upon completion.
Inventory of Learning
Licensees will also answer guided questions to describe the learning activities they have completed over the past year, and to outline their professional development plans for the year ahead. This inventory will help them reflect on how their learning is linked to knowledge gaps, interests, and patient outcomes.
2. Practice Support & Resources
- No PQPP requirements involved. Optional only.
- Currently available, and year-round, for all CHCPBC licensees.
Licensees can contact CHCPBC’s profession-specific Practice Advisors for confidential advice related to the new harmonized Ethics and Practice Standards and other topics to support decision-making in practice.
For more detail, including how to best contact a Practice Advisor, visit the Practice Support page.
3. Quality Assurance Assessments
- For selected CHCPBC licensees only.
- Will be virtual for the majority of licensees who are selected, conducted by a Quality Assurance Assessor from the same profession, and occur between May 1 and June 30 each year (starting in 2027).
An assessment will occur for only a portion of licensees who may require additional supports based on patterns of overall health professional risks or professional performance. It will be a semi-structured interview where the Assessor and the licensee discuss how the same standards covered in the CPD Annual Touchpoints can be applied by the licensee to their practice. It is estimated that the assessment will take approximately one hour. If gaps are identified as a result, education and support will be provided.
Design and development on the QA Assessment tools are still underway, including the determination of selection criteria. More detail on this portion of the program will be updated as it becomes available.
