HPOA bylaws consultation: Licensure and Support Programs

CHCPBC is moving forward with the development of a modernized and unified approach to a Quality Assurance Program (QAP). The program will support quality practice of more than 16,000 health and care professionals in nine professions and be consistent with the Health Professions and Occupations Act (HPOA) when it is brought into force.

The College of Health and Care Professionals of BC has decided to pursue the sale of the legacy College of Optometrists of BC office space at 906-938 Howe Street in Vancouver.

June is National Indigenous History Month. This month presents an opportunity to celebrate Indigenous brilliance. This month we also encourage you to learn. At CHCPBC, we are doing our part to dismantle Indigenous-specific racism in the healthcare system. We are identifying where Indigenous-specific racism shows up in our regulatory processes and we choose to be an actively anti-racist organization.

CHCPBC invites submissions from Indigenous artists to create a commemorative piece of visual art to be featured as the cover and integrated throughout our upcoming report marking the 10-year anniversary of the Truth and Reconciliation Commission of Canada’s Calls to Action.

CHCPBC is in the process of public consultation on draft bylaws under the Health Professions and Occupations Act (HPOA). This consultation is open to all members of the public. The draft bylaws will be released for consultation in groups over a two-month period.

When CHCPBC was formed in the summer of 2024, our logo featured bright green stars, accompanied by light and dark blue text. Six months later, we began the process of replacing this logo on our website and documents with an enhanced version. Why the re-brand for such a new organization? The answer relates to digital accessibility.

CHCPBC has posted the following message on behalf of the Alliance of Canadian Dietetic Regulatory Bodies: The review of the May 2025 Canadian Dietetic Registration Exam (CDRE), and the exam development process is completed with no concerns identified. The next CDRE will be administered May 22-23, 2025.

The Canadian Alliance of Physiotherapy Regulators (CAPR) will launch a single licensure examination in 2026. The Canadian Physiotherapy Examination (CPTE) will replace the current two-exam model. For a limited time during the transition phase, applicants may pursue either the two-exam or single-exam pathway.

CHCPBC is seeking public and registrant members for three regulatory committees to ensure adequate diversity of perspectives, lived experience, and profession-specific expertise. The committees include: Inquiry Committee, Professional Practice and Standards Advisory Committee, and Registration Committee.

CHCPBC has compiled an overview of information about Non-Prescribed Hearing Aids (NPHAs). The overview includes information that Registered Hearing Instrument Practitioners and Registered Audiologists can provide to clients or members of the public if asked about access to Apple AirPods’ hearing health features.
