HPOA bylaws consultation: Continuing Professional Development and Professional Responsibilities

CHCPBC is seeking feedback on three additional parts of draft bylaws for the College under the Health Professions and Occupations Act: Certified Practice, General, and Quality Assurance. Feedback is due September 15, 2025.

Work has started, with the assistance of an external consultant, to map the content of all current CHCPBC practice standards and to work toward a single set of harmonized standards for all registrants. We recognize that some requirements are profession-specific and we will ensure that content is not lost.

The Ministry of Health has announced that the Health Professions Act will be repealed on April 1, 2026 and replaced by the Health Professions and Occupations Act (HPOA). The BC Government has also posted updated regulations to align with the HPOA. The regulations will add new health professions to BC’s health regulatory framework. On November 29, 2027, psychotherapists will be regulated by CHCPBC.

On behalf of the Office of the Provincial Health Officer, Ministry of Health, CHCPBC is sending a message to all College registrants about a significant increase in measles cases across multiple health authorities in BC, and protecting against measles by having two doses of measles-containing vaccine.

CHCPBC is moving forward with the development of a modernized and unified approach to a Quality Assurance Program (QAP). The program will support quality practice of more than 16,000 health and care professionals in nine professions and be consistent with the Health Professions and Occupations Act (HPOA) when it is brought into force.

The College of Health and Care Professionals of BC has decided to pursue the sale of the legacy College of Optometrists of BC office space at 906-938 Howe Street in Vancouver.

We are identifying where Indigenous-specific racism shows up in our regulatory processes and we choose to be an actively anti-racist organization.

CHCPBC invites submissions from Indigenous artists to create a commemorative piece of visual art to be featured as the cover and integrated throughout our upcoming report marking the 10-year anniversary of the Truth and Reconciliation Commission of Canada’s Calls to Action.

CHCPBC is in the process of public consultation on draft bylaws under the Health Professions and Occupations Act (HPOA). This consultation is open to all members of the public. The draft bylaws will be released for consultation in groups over a two-month period.
